Addressing the state's water challenges by improving water efficiency through diverse community connections, innovative solutions and valuable member resources
At Colorado WaterWise, we aim to support our local water utility partners to ensure safe, sustainable, affordable and equitable water services to all Coloradoans. Now, more than ever, our communities are faced with economic distress following the COVID-19 pandemic and a rallying call to action to address the racial disparities that exist in our communities. This highly interactive listening session, will allow audience members and speakers to engage with one another to ask questions about the role our water utilities must play in addressing equity and affordability challenges and to share their own reflections and experiences.
This listening session will provide examples of utilities that have developed and implemented customer-facing programs with an equity and affordability decision-making lens. We’ll hear from Aurora Water, which has partnered with Mile High Youth Corps, a local job preparedness program, to install water efficient fixtures in the homes of low-income residents to save residents money on their water bills, reduce system water use, and provide job opportunities. We’ll also learn more about Denver Water’s comprehensive lead line replacement program that has prioritized getting the lead out of disadvantaged communities first. Importantly, we will also hear from some of the leading voices on environmental justice in Colorado like Green Latinos to talk about how they would like to see our utilities further engaging with their communities and addressing equity and affordability challenges.
