The morning will be spent learning from experienced water festival coordinators some of the best practices and innovative methods for planning, logistics, executing, and evaluating the effectiveness of a water festival. Plenty of time will be structured for networking and sharing.

Bring your innovative water festival activity or tool to share during the afternoon. Also, learn a few new stormwater activities from Earth Force and Denver Public Works’ KIC-NET program and how to implement the Colorado Geographic Alliance’s new 16’x20’ Colorado state map into your water festival. Continuing education credit certificates available for educators.

This session will be held at the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District in Pueblo from 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

The Colorado Stormwater Council (CSC) contracted to develop bus ads which focused on nutrient pollution and complement the Live Like You Love It (LLYLI) campaign led by Colorado WaterWise (CWW).  CSC is comprised of the majority of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit holders in Colorado.  CWW serves as the collaborative leader in the efficient use of urban water in Colorado.  The water messaging collaboration was the first of its kind in Colorado and will connect millions of Coloradans to their water.

The ads were placed by:

Regional Transportation District (RTD) 

RTD’s geographic area covers 8 counties (40 municipalities in 6 counties plus 2 city/county jurisdictions): Boulder; Broomfield; Denver; Jefferson; Adams; Arapahoe; Douglas; Weld. 

• o  Ads were placed in bus interiors (850 buses), transflux signs were placed on all light rail trains (172), the Free MallRide shuttles (36) and the Free MetroRide buses (13). 

The 2015 ridership numbers (the latest data available) was:

• ·     Average weekday boardings: 339,300 (system wide)
• ·     Annual boardings: 103,377,797 (system wide)

Grand Valley Transit (GVT)

GVT’s geographic area covers the areas surrounding the City of Fruita, Town of Palisade and Downtown Grand Junction.

• o  Ads were placed in bus interiors (27) buses. 

The 2016 ridership numbers are:

• ·     Average weekday boardings: 2,700 (system wide)
• ·     Annual boardings: 831,435 (system wide)

Colorado WaterWise members Western Resource Advocates and Brendle Group are conducting research, sponsored by the Water Research Foundation, that aims to improve collaboration between the water and land use sectors. By better understanding the current state of collaboration, identifying barriers, and prioritizing appropriate solutions, the research team seeks to produce recommendations, tools, and case studies that can be effectively used by all stakeholders that work at the intersection of water resources and land use.

In partnership with a similar research effort being conducted by the University of Arizona (funded by the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation), a survey is now underway to gather input form stakeholders engaged in the water and land use planning processes. The survey should take about 20-30 minutes to complete (you may save and continue at any time). All answers will be strictly confidential.

Would you like the tools to offer Project WET educator workshops for water educators in your community? The Project WET curriculum is one of the most widely used K-12 water education tools in the country. This two-day workshop will give you the tools and training to host and facilitate your own Project WET workshops in your community for local teachers, environmental educators, watershed educators, water festival volunteers, youth organizations, and others.

The first day will be spent becoming familiar with Project WET 2.0 curriculum activities and will include a field trip to a riparian park along the Crystal River. Day two will include training on how to conduct a workshop, access resources, and market your workshops.

Participants will be required to prepare and facilitate one Project WET activity during the workshop.

On June 7 and 8, CFWE is offering half-day bike tours. Pedal through the Bear Creek watershed, southwest of Denver, to discover how groups are reclaiming and protecting urban waterways. We'll see first-hand water quality improvement projects, recreation along the creek, long-term watershed planning and community education and stewardship. Registration is free but required. The Irrigation Association announced yesterday that it is launching a quarterly magazine in July. Irrigation Today will be a print publication which will be distributed to members and qualified nonmembers. Content will include sustainable water resources, smart technologies, extension agents, growers and commercial end users.
