USU Webinar: Water-Wise Demonstration Street

  • Tuesday, April 14, 2020
  • 2:00 PM

This month Utah State University Extension is fortunate to have Jake Powell, Landscape Architecture Specialist with Utah State University, introduce us to a demonstration street project recently installed in Cedar City, UT.

In 2019, the Iron County Extension office received grant funding to create a demonstration street showcasing residential low water, low impact, low maintenance, sustainable landscaped front yards.

To accomplish this, we’ve partnered with the Iron County Home Builders Association to identify Alex Meisner Construction and Crescent Hills Subdivision as a new residential development where the demonstration street is being established. Four landscapes have been installed so far, and one project featured in the 2019 Cedar City Festival of Homes. The homes are located on a single street located within a new subdivision allowing for water use comparisons of sustainable water-wise landscapes to traditional landscapes, in the years to come.

Our hope is that the concept of a comparison “demonstration street” & supporting educational materials will help homeowners and professionals by providing a viewable, residential scale template and demystify complex water conservation concepts.
