Overview
Water efficiency plans, sometimes called water conservation plans, serve as roadmaps for establishing successful water conservation programs that meet the goals of the water provider and the needs of its customers. Regardless of a water provider’s size, water efficiency plans provide guidance for action, promote and improve utilization of resources, and facilitate development of water saving goals. Water efficiency plans should be the first step in developing any water conservation program. Integrating water conservation into other plans and processes is also vital to achieve maximum impact. Entities that provide over 2,000 acre-feet of water are required to update water efficiency plans every seven years (see CWCB Guidance document here).
For more on this best practice see the CWW Best Practices document, which includes additional information on:
- Developing effective water efficiency plans to serve as a roadmap to guide conservation efforts.
- Integrating water into other relevant plans and services.
- Executing the dedicated coordination of a water conservation program to support successful water efficiency program implementation.
